<P sizset="21" sizcache="17">Senate Majority Leader <A
href="http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=profile-000000000337"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>Harry Reid's</FONT></A> (D-Nev.) standing in his home state has
hit a new low, and his ownership of the Democrats' health care overhaul <A
href="http://media.lvrj.com/images/healthcare_poll_1A.jpg"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>is hurting</FONT></A>, not helping.</P>
<P sizset="23" sizcache="17">Fifty-two percent of registered Nevada voters now
have an unfavorable opinion of Reid, while just 33 percent have a favorable
view, according to <A
href="http://www.lvrj.com/news/reid-hits-new-low-in-poll-81060702.html"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>a poll</FONT></A> conducted Jan. 5 through 7 by Mason-Dixon
polling for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The margin of error was 4 percent.</P>
<P><FONT size=5><U>And just 35 percent of Nevada voters support the Democrats'
health care overhaul legislation</U>, a 4 point drop since December. Fifty-four
percent oppose it, including 62 percent of independents and 89 percent of
Republicans.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=5><U>Sixty percent of voters disapprove of Reid's efforts to
shepherd the bill through the Senate</U>; 33 percent approve.</FONT></P></DIV>
<DIV class="text asset-more" id=more sizset="24" sizcache="17">
<P sizset="24" sizcache="17"><FONT size=5>Reid also continues to trail three
prospective GOP opponents. </FONT>Against former Republican state party chair <A
href="http://www.suelowden.com/index.php/about-sue/"><FONT color=#2d5e74>Sue
Lowden</FONT></A>, Reid registers 40 percent of the the vote to Lowden's 50
percent. Real estate developer <A href="http://tark2010.org/"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>Danny Tarkanian</FONT></A> tops Reid 49 to 41 percent and former
Assemblywoman <A href="http://www.sharronangle.com/About.html"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>Sharron Angle</FONT></A> leads 45 to 40 percent over the
Democratic senator.</P>
<P>In each match-up, the Republican candidate wins more than 50 percent of
independent voters, while Reid only garners about one-quarter of the independent
vote. </P>
<P sizset="27" sizcache="17">Tarkanian leads the GOP primary field at 28
percent, with Lowden receiving 26 percent, Angle 13 percent and state Sen. <A
href="http://www.amodei4nevada.com/meet-mark.asp"><FONT color=#2d5e74>Mark
Amodei</FONT></A> (R) 1 percent. Five other Republicans don't register any
support and 32 percent of Republican voters remain undecided.</P>
<P sizset="28" sizcache="17">Harry Reid's son <A
href="http://www.roryreid.com/"><FONT color=#2d5e74>Rory</FONT></A> is also not
faring well with Nevada voters, trailing in the the state's governor's race
against former federal judge <A href="http://www.briansandoval.com/"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>Brian Sandoval</FONT></A> (R).</P>
<P sizset="30" sizcache="17">In <A
href="http://www.lvrj.com/news/poll-sandoval-would-top-gibbons-in-gop-primary-reid-in-november-81088152.html"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>a contest</FONT></A> between Reid, chairman of the Clark County
Commission, Sandoval and independent <A
href="http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Government/mayor_oscar_b_goodman.htm"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>Oscar Goodman</FONT></A>, the current mayor of Las Vegas, Sandoval
takes 35 percent of the vote, Goodman 33 percent and Reid 20 percent.</P>
<P sizset="32" sizcache="17">If embattled incumbent Gov. <A
href="http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=profile-000000000336"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>Jim Gibbons</FONT></A> (R) is the GOP nominee, Goodman leads with
41 percent of the vote, Reid earns 24 percent and GIbbons 21 percent.</P>
<P>While Reid, Sandoval and Gibbons have all declared they are running, Goodman
has only said that he is considering a campaign and has made no official
decision one way or the other.</P>
<P>With Goodman out of the picture, Sandoval becomes the clear favorite. In a
head-to-head match-up with Reid, he leads by double digits -- 53 to 31 percent.
Against Gibbons, Reid would win 42 to 26 percent.</P>
<P sizset="33" sizcache="17">Reid does not face competition for the Democratic
nomination. In the GOP primary, Sandoval leads Gibbons 39 to 23 percent with
North Las Vegas Nevada Mayor <A href="http://www.mikemontandon.com/"><FONT
color=#2d5e74>Michael Montandon</FONT></A> earning 7 percent of the
vote.</P></DIV></DIV><!-- related news -->
