Exodus 12

The Passover

• 12:9 "nor sodden with water" - "I thirst" said the Lamb John 19:28. "not raw … but roasted in fire" - speaking of death and the second death.
• 12:12 Throughout Genesis, there was a theme of the firstborn getting rejected or passed over in favor of the younger: Cain and Abel, Ishmael and Isaac, Esau and Jacob, Reuben and Judah. The firstborn sons of Judah, Er and Onan, were killed by God.
• 12:19 "For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses." - yeast is a type of sin.
• 12:22 "hyssop" - "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." Psalm 51:7. Hyssop is used to cleanse a house of mold contamination in Leviticus 14:52. This is called "leprosy", which is a type of sin.

  "None of you are to go out of your house until morning." This looks forward to the coming judgement on the nations, as in Isaiah 26:20.

• 12:40 "Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years." This is the King James text, and the literal reading of the Hebrew. However, most modern English translations paraphrase this to "Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years." The paraphrase cannot be correct because of geneaology given in Exodus 6:16-. There are no missing generations, because the number of generations was given back in Genesis 15:16. As further confirmation, the Septuagint reads, "who dwelt in Egypt and Canaan".
• 12:46 "Do not break any of the bones." - None of Christ's bones were broken.
