Visions of the Kingdom: Week 22

Last time, God reviewed the rebellion of the sons of Josiah. Now, God reviews the rebellion of Israel from Egypt to Caanan.

20:4 Whatever the elders asked was so presumptious, God responds only by rehearsing their abominations.
20:8 No specific mention of the idols in Egypt, but the golden calf incident, and that immediately following the 2nd commandment, makes the implication plain. Joshua 24:14
20:9 Mercy triumphs over justice James 2:13
20:10 "made them go out" - Israel did not want to leave bondage. God arranged for Pharoah to drive them out through the Red Sea.
20:13 "profaned my Sabbaths" - which they continued to do until the captivity.
20:25 "gave them over" - Romans 1:28 Isaiah 63:17
20:26 Israel, and presumably the Egyptians, were already killing their children before Pharaoh cast them into the river and God smote the firstborn.
