Genesis 41 - The Exaltation and Ministry of Joseph

• 41:1 "Two full years", elapsed time. Not beginning and ending years.
• 41:9 The butler confesses his fault.
• 41:14 Joseph cleaned up before his new ministry - Jesus was baptized After 13 years of nothing seeming to happen, when the time is right (Kairos), things move quickly for Joseph. Things move quickly when Jesus begins his public ministry. If the butler had remembered earlier, and Joseph was released earlier, they wouldn't have known where to find him. (Govt surveillance was not up to modern standards.)
• 41:15 Pharoah sets up Joseph to promote himself, but he refuses.
• 41:21 Additional detail not in the first telling.
• 41:33 Joseph shifts from interpretation to application of God's revelation.
• 41:45 Pharoah gives Joseph a gentile wife, as the Father gives Jesus a gentile wife.
• 41:46 Joseph and Jesus begin public ministry at 30 after a life of obscurity.
• 41:51 Manasseh - "forgetfulness", "forgetting what lies behind, we press forward to the mark of the high calling of Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14
• 41:52 Ephraim - "twice fruitful" - "This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples." John 15:8
• 41:56 Joseph made Pharoah very rich, at the expense of native Egyptians. There will be a revolution later.
