The Fury of the Lord

  • 6:1 “flee from Jerusalem” - those alert and in the know would flee before the Chaldean forces arrive. “Signal fires” - watchmen on distant slopes would light fires. Remember “one if by land, two if by sea” from American history. Jeremiah was a Benjamite - perhaps they paid more attention.

  • 6:2 “beautiful and delicate” - Judah imagined themselves cultured and sophisticated - soy boys. A delicate woman is at severe disadvantage against toxic male warriors.

  • 6:10 “who will listen” - nobody. “scorned the Word of the Lord” - you are in a very dangerous place when the Word is a thing to be avoided.

  • 6:16 “ancient paths” - retraditionalization.
“We will not walk in it!” - progressivism.

  • 6:29 “refining proceeds in vain” - Judah refused to be corrected.

  • 6:30 “rejected silver” - reprobate.
