Recap of Prophecy Fulfilled
Jeremiah 52 Recap of Prophecy Fulfilled
This chapter is written in a totally diffent style than the rest of Jeremiah
and Lamentations. Its tone is dispassionate and unemotional. If Jeremiah
wrote it, it was while he was in shock from the fall of Jerusalem. But the
usual theory is that Baruch added it as a recap of the prophecies.
- 52:1 “Zedekiah was twenty one” - this style is like Chronicles.
2 Chronicles 36:11-12
- 52:6 “the people of the land had no food” - “And I will cause them to eat the
flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat
every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith
their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.”
21:9
- 52:8 “in the plains of Jericho” - with the Jordan in sight, Zedekiah
could taste victory over that hateful prophecy of Jeremiah. At the
very place where Israel first set foot in the land, the last of it’s
mortal kings was captured and the monarchy ended.
- 52:18 “temple service” - used and profaned by Belshazzar at the
fall of Babylon. Daniel 5
- 52:24 “Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah” - Seraiah sees
prophecy fulfilled concerning himself.
29:24
- 52:27 “put them to death” - apparently including Seraiah.
Jeremiah 21:9
- 52:31 “pardoned Jehoiachin” - like the rest of Jeremiah, a token of grace and
hope ends the account of tragic (unnecessary) judgement on Judah.
