Family Research Council questions Dept. of Interior's
special treatment for homosexual businesses

Washington, Aug. 08 (CWNews.com) - The head of a
Christian think-tank in Washington, DC, has asked a
Cabinet official to explain a new program giving
preferential treatment to gay and lesbian business
owners.

Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research
Council, reports that he wrote to Interior Secretary
Gale Norton, requesting an explanation for an
agreement struck by the Interior Department with the
National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. The
agreement would give homosexual and lesbian business
owners access to funding that Congress has established
for "small and disadvantaged businesses."

"Beyond the obvious question of whether [gay and
lesbian business owners] are actually
'disadvantaged,'" Perkins observed, "there is no basis
whatsoever in federal law for such special treatment."

Perkins indicated that he has not yet received a reply
from the Interior Department.
