Lesser-known pope visits Bulverde parishioners

BULVERDE — Most Catholic parishes would be overjoyed
to host a visit from the pope, but the Coptic Orthodox
parish of St. Anthony the Great hosted its third papal
visit Sunday. 

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III blesses the altar at
the Coptic Orthodox parish of St. Anthony the Great.

The distinguished visitor wasn't Pope Benedict XVI,
but His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, the worldwide
shepherd of the Coptic Orthodox Church. 

Shenouda, based in Alexandria, Egypt, visited the
small but growing parish to consecrate the altar of
its new church, completed last year, and to celebrate
the regular Sunday liturgy before about 250
congregants, including visitors from Houston, Dallas
and Nashville, Tenn.
