I think there may be some fundamentalists who think
they are irrevokably "saved" by making a one-time
altar call.
But if you talk to them a while, many will eventually
admit that "faith" involves a life-long commitment to
all that Jesus commanded of us.
Likewise, justification by faith is a CATHOLIC
docrine, provided the terms "justifcation" and "faith"
are properly understood.
As Stuart mentioned, "We are saved by faith alone, but
faith that is not alone" is BOTH a Catholic doctrine
AND the most common ways that a lot of Protestants
explain their beliefs.
That's one of the reasons Catholics and Lutherans were
able to reach a joint declaration on justification,
which Cardinal Ratzinger strongly supported.
