Pope encourages Methodists on theological accord  

Vatican, Dec. 09 (CWNews.com) - During a December 9
meeting with leaders of the World Methodist Council,
Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) encouraged the move by
Methodist leaders to endorse the theological accord on
justification that was signed by Catholic and Lutheran
leaders in 1999. 

The member-churches of the World Methodist Council
have given their tentative approval to a bid to
affiliate themselves with the Catholic-Lutheran
statement. A final decision will be made when the
Methodist body votes at a meeting in Seoul, Korean,
next July.
