WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- One week after the U.S.
Secret Service upheld a ban on crosses at President
George W. Bush's Inaugural Parade, the Department of
Justice sent a letter to a Christian group assuring
them that crosses "are not per se prohibited."

In a fax obtained by Talon News, Assistant United
States Attorney Marina Utgoff Braswell and United
States Attorney Kenneth L. Wainstein sent a letter
dated January 12, 2005 to James M. Henderson, Sr., an
attorney with the American Center For Law & Justice
representing the Christian Defense Coalition.

As reported by Talon News last week, the Christian
Defense Coalition requested the Secret Service take
away language in their list of banned items for the
Inaugural Parade that specifically prohibited crosses
from being included in public displays by those in
attendance,. Crosses had been named among other
contraband in a list of items disallowed at this
event.
