Mixed reactions to dress code for church-goers 
 
Everyone who comes to church should present themselves
in a manner fitting God’s sacred presence: Archbishop

Mumbai, July 12: Even as Archbishop Cardinal Ivan Dias
announced a dress code for church-goers, the community
is putting out a mixed bag of reactions. 

In a statement distributed through churches across the
city, the Archbishop said: ‘‘The church is the house
of God. It is therefore fitting that every one who
comes to church should present themselves in a manner
that is fitting God’s sacred presence there.’’ 
 
Diana Matthew (55), a church regular said: ‘‘I go to
pray to our creator and therefore I should dress
decently. I am very happy the dress code issue was
finally taken up.’’
