This practice of going to one's ancestors for healing is not one I have had personal experience with ... I have only heard that it is a concern in most Christian denominations here and elsewhere in Africa, and the Catholic Church is no exception.  There has been some debate about the extent to which ancestors are honoured is paralleled by the Catholic concept of the communion of saints ... on the other hand, I've heard of Catholic priests who offer animal sacrifices.  I heard that this was done at Mass ... I wasn't aware that they moonlighted as witchdoctors etc.

The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) is quite strong in some places in the country, and it was common to see their gatherings, usually under a tree (??religious significance) in very charactaristic ethnic dress, on Sundays when we drove home from Mass when I lived in Pretoria.
