I'm not so sure that he's promoting the book as he is resigning to the fact
that it's coming and its going to be a big event. He sounds as if he's
going to use the opportunity to start discussions and evangelize.

Subject: [Apologetics] Some "Evangelicals" to Support the Da Vinci Code
Movie
Friends,
Here is an article from the Washington Post, which is
a reprint from the Orlando Sentinel.
Let me know what you think about it.
What is says to me is that Josh McDowell, the Campus
Crusade for Christ, and other "Evangelicals" have been
paid off by the producers of the movie to encourage
people to see it and read the book, ostensibly to be
able to respond to it.
I also think some Protestants will try to use the
movie to take "a shot" at the Catholic Church.
Not to paint with too broad a brush, I think there
will be some Protestant groups--Focus on the Family,
for instance--which will NOT take the DaVinci money
and will continue to denounce the film and the book.
Unfortunately, it does not look like there will be a
unified Christian response to the movie.
Catholics had better be prepared to go it alone.

Evangelicals Prepare 'Da Vinci Code' Response
By Mark I. Pinsky

As a conservative evangelical leader, Josh McDowell is
one of the last people you'd expect to urge young
Christians to see "The Da Vinci Code," the upcoming
movie based on the phenomenally best-selling novel.
After all, the book argues that Jesus sired a line of
royalty before he died on the cross -- Mary Magdalene
being pregnant with his child -- and that it was
covered up by religious leaders through the centuries.
But McDowell, author of "The Da Vinci Code -- A Quest
for Truth," not only urges a trip to the theater, but
also advises everybody to read the novel by Dan Brown.
