India: Catholics protest Baptist violence  

May. 18 (CWNews.com) - Catholic leaders in India's
Manipur state, which borders Myanmar, have filed a
complaint with local police after Baptists attacked
Catholic instructors and torched the houses of tribal
families who were preparing to become Catholics. 

"We have asked the police to compensate those whose
houses have been destroyed and take action against the
culprits in Kwark village," Bishop Dominic Lumon of
Imphal told CWN. 

Bishop Lumon said Baptists, who from the religious
majority in the region "often do not allow us to enter
their villages, and this is what happens even if the
(non-Christian) people in the village want to become
Catholics."
