[Apologetics] Religion in This Week's Boston Legal

This week's Boston Legal again talked about religion
in a couple of places.

Many of producer David Kelley's scripts involve
religious themes. In particular, he has a lot of
programs about Catholicism in the long running The
Practice, the short lived girl's club, and now Boston
Legal. There are also shows involving Protetants and
Jews.

In defending a client accused of cannibalism, Alan
Shore, played by James Spader, told the jury that
every week, 1.5 billion Christians go to church to eat
the body and drink the blood of Jesus.

He quoted the Gospel of St. John 6:55-56, "For my
flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in
me and I in him."

(I have a personalized license plate on my car: John6
55.)

The judge then said that was not meant literally. But
of course, it absolutely IS meant literally for those
Christians who belive that Jesus is present body,
blood, soul, and divinity in the Holy Eucharist.

Alan's argument carried the day and his client was
found not guilty.

But there was more religion to come in the closing
balcony scene. When Alan asks Denny Crane, played by
William Shatner, what he would do if he met God,
Denny's reply, if I heard him correctly, sounded
blasphemous.

I don't know what to make of this episode, but I
wanted to report it to you.
