Hi
Snipped from Diogenes' post at Catholic World News at http://www.cwnews.com/offtherecord/offtherecord.cfm?task=singledisplay&recnum=4212
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An Anglican bishop warns that a colleague is threatening to break with "the ancient practice in most of the church." Another Anglican official warns against "things that violate longstanding practice."
"This action would only serve to heighten current tensions," says the bishop who is defending the "ancient practice."
So which time-honored Christian practice is this brave Anglican prelate defending? Is it male-female marriage? No. The male priesthood? No. Male bishops, then? Certainly not.
Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori is concerned that the Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola plans to visit the US without a formal invitation from the local Episcopal hierarchy. It's that visit-without-invitation that violates ancient tradition, you see.
So Schori is defending tradition, and Akinola (who upholds male-female marriage, etc) is the one who's causing trouble, by breaking from ancient practice. All clear now, I hope?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
God bless,
Stephen
