This comment at Holy Smoke struck me as very true.  It refers to Pope Benedict XVI.

"One feels that he believes himself to be a custodian of the Church rather than its master"

The context is criticism of Pope John Paul II, which I don't entirely agree with, although kissing the Koran was a bit puzzling.  But the quote above, taken out of that context, is a lovely one.  One I feel is very true.
