Congress to Vote in September on Obama-Backed Health Bills That Would
Greatly Expand Abortion
Part One of Two

By Dave Andrusko

Editor's note. Part Two
<http://www.nrlc.org/News_and_Views/Aug09/nv081009part2.html> examines
the "bold gamble" of the pro-abortion Democratic Virginia gubernatorial
candidate to attack the pro-life Republican. Please send your thoughts
to daveandrusko at gmail.com.

"The bottom line is a sense that, while Americans apparently favor some
type of healthcare reform in the long term, they are in no hurry to see
healthcare reform legislation passed in the short-term on a rushed
schedule. ... A Pew Research poll released this week shows that those
who are worried about new health care legislation are most likely to say
it is because it involves too much spending and would increase the
deficit."
     Frank Newport, Gallup

"For months, leaders of major pro-abortion groups, when speaking to
their own backers, have emphasized the potential of the health care
legislation to greatly expand access to abortion and government
subsidies for abortion. ....However, in July, as the abortion-related
aspects of the issue became a hot issue in Congress some of the same
pro-abortion groups began telling the news media and lawmakers that the
pro-life side was promoting 'myths' when they warned that the bills
would expand abortion."

That Would Greatly Expand Abortion," July/August NRL News.

The July/August issue of National Right to Life News is on its way to
your homes. We held off publishing until Congress recessed, so as to
provide you with the latest information about health care "reform" and
its implications for abortion and rationing.

Pro-abortion President Barack Obama and his
pro-abortion Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

On the front page is an Action Alert, which explains how--if we are not
watching every minute--health care bills could create the greatest
expansion of abortion since the execrable Roe v. Wade decision darkened
the landscape in 1973.

Another page one story discusses how we must "guard against the grave
danger of rationing lifesaving medical treatment, food, and fluids," and
provides key points to make when you are discussing health care
rationing with your congressman or senators.

Please be aware that genuine grassroots activists-such as those
affiliated with NRLC-will come under increased attack. Think about this
for a second and see if the pieces don't all fit together as neatly as a
jigsaw puzzle.

Pro-abortion Democrats are dedicated to funneling countless millions of
dollars into the coffers of Planned Parenthood, guaranteeing that the
blessed reduction in abortions we experienced over the last decade will
come to a screeching halt. But, since truth already has been the first
casualty, we have been--and will continue to be-- told repeatedly that
it just isn't so.

The more educated pro-lifers attend town hall meetings and politely and
respectfully confront their elected legislators with the facts, the more
these politicians will (a) ratchet up the disinformation campaign, and
(b) try to change the subject by demonizing citizens concerned enough to
get up to speed on the issues and attend the town hall.

And as they crank up the rhetoric [concerned citizens are acting in an
"Un-American" way, according to pro-abortion Speaker of the House Nancy
Pelosi], the more they will insist that grassroots lobbying must be
regulated. Too many Democrats, it appears, are not big fans of
democracy.

I figured out a long time ago that all you really need to know about
pro-abortion President Barack Obama and his closed-fisted Chief of Staff
Rahm Emanuel is that they learned their politics Chicago-style.
Tolerance and respect for opposing points of view have never been
afforded a high priority in the land of one-party politics.

My point is a simple one. Keep educating yourself by reading NRL News
and Today's News & Views and by visiting www.nrlactioncenter.com.
Freedom is never cheap, and if ever we let our guard down, there will
never be a shortage of people eager to take it away from us.
