Dear Mr. Korsman
In reference to your enquiry, statements and other documents, including
guidelines, are discussed and adopted by appropriate Church bodies, such as
the Executive Committee of the General Conference of the Seventh-day
Adventist Church. Between the quinquennial sessions of the world Church, the
Executive Committee is the Church's highest authority to conduct Church
business. The referenced document on abortion comes with the authority of
the Church and constitutes the Church's official approval of these
guidelines.
Blessings.

Hi
Could you please enlighten me as to who has the authority to formulate
official Adventist teaching?
Specifically, are the guidelines on abortion, as posted at
http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/guidelines/main_guide1.html official
Adventist guidelines, or merely guidelines set out by a committee NOT able
to formulate official teaching without the consent of a world-wide
conference?
The text states at the bottom, "These guidelines were approved and voted by
the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Executive Committee at the
Annual Council session in Silver Spring, Maryland, October 12, 1992."
Was this committee authorised to formulate official Adventist guidelines, or
are these only official in the USA, or one specific area of the USA?
Thanks!
Stephen
