Benefits:

The Senate defeated 59-39 an attempt by Senator Jim DeMint to prevent
re-instatement of the federal estate tax.  The "death tax" is now zero
but will automatically return to 55% next year unless Congress takes
action to stop it.

An "estate" is what is left over after paying a lifetime of taxes.  To
tax these assets all over again is greedy government's final grab.

A new Gallup Poll found that 77% of Americans believe Social Security is
either in a crisis or faces major problems.  Of those now retired, just
37% think their benefits will be continued, while only 22% of those 18
to 34 and 32% of those 35 to 54 believe they will ever receive any
Social Security benefits.

The latest Rasmussen Reports show Republicans ahead in congressional
races 45% to 36%.  But the newest Gallup Poll shows Democrats on top 49%
to 43%.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has failed to
capitalize on the golden opportunity to defeat liberal Congressman Bob
Etheridge (D-NC) with conservative Renee Ellmers.  Following a
videotaped incident in which Etheridge assaulted a young student,
Ellmers took the lead in a poll, but the NRCC has shown almost no
interest in the race.

Republicans lead in 14 out of 15 races in new Rasmussen polls.  Rand
Paul is ahead 49% to 41% in Kentucky and Pat Toomey is out in front 45%
to 38% in Pennsylvania.

to pray at the tomb of Martin Luther King, Jr.  Father Frank Pavone of
Priests for Life says the rides are intended to show the nation the
truth about abortion.

The Institute on Religion and Democracy has thanked Catholics and
Southern Baptists for actively opposing the Obama Administration's
efforts to permit open homosexuals from serving in the military.
Archbishop Timothy Broglio says Catholic chaplains will not bless
same-sex unions nor mute Catholic moral teachings.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State has threatened to
file a complaint against the Gano Baptist Church in Georgetown, Kentucky
for conducting a Vacation Bible School that teaches the role of faith in
the formation of the nation.  Rev. Wayne Lipscomb, pastor of the church,
says kids "need to understand the connection between God and our
Founding Fathers."

The ACLU wants a high school in Cranston, Rhode Island to take down a
banner in its auditorium that contains a nonsectarian prayer.  The
prayer states in part, "Our Heavenly Father, grant us each day the
desire to do our best, to grow mentally and morally as well as
physically, to be kind and helpful to our classmates and teachers."
