President Obama gave a "recess appointment" to Dr. Donald Berwick, a
strong advocate of rationing of medical care, to be the new
Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Berwick would not have been confirmed by the Senate.

Senator John Barrasso said the appointment was "an insult to the
American people." Senator Mitch McConnell said it was outrageous the
Obama Administration "won't allow the man charged with implementing the
President's plan to cut $500 Billion out of Medicare to testify about
his plans" for seniors.

Senator Tom Coburn and Senator John Barrasso, both physicians, have
released a new 31-page report, Bad Medicine, on Obamacare. The latest
poll shows 60% of the American people want to repeal Obamacare, 36% want
to keep it, and 4% are undecided.

Conservatives and the GOP:

A new Rasmussen poll finds that the American people think the Republican
Party is better than the Democratic Party on 9 of 10 key issues. The
average of the 10 issues is 45.8% for the GOP, 36.4% for the Democrats.

Yet, 35.4% of the people consider themselves Democrats, 33.0%
Republicans. The GOP appears to be drawing significant support from
independents on issues but not party identification.

For this year's congressional elections, Rasmussen has the Republicans
ahead 44% to 38% with 18% undecided. Gallup has the GOP ahead 46% to
44% with 10% undecided.

In Senate races, incumbent Republicans Richard Burr (NC) and Tom Coburn
(OK) lead their Democratic opponents. In gubernatorial elections,
Republicans Sam Brownback (KS), Tom Cobert (PA), and John Kasich (OH)
are ahead.

Values:

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council testified before the Senate
Judiciary Committee in opposition to Elena Kagan's nomination to the
Supreme Court. "We do not need a justice on the Supreme Court who sees
it as her life mission to write the homosexual version of Roe v Wade by
striking down one-man, one-woman marriage across America."

WORLD magazine reports that the Obama Administration's plan to permit
open homosexuals to serve in the military would have a devastating
effect on the men and women in uniform and on the military chaplains.
The legislation now moving through Congress would muzzle chaplains from
preaching that homosexual conduct is contrary to biblical morality.

"Gays" in the armed forces would seriously hurt both retention and
recruitment. Open participation in the military is seen as a step "in
achieving the goal of normalizing homosexuality in mainstream America."
