Benefits:

There is an "urgency among Democrats" to explain and defend the
unpopular Obamacare. $125 million will be used to create the Health
Information Center with a staff of 10 to 15.

The President spoke at a seniors center where he claimed "the guaranteed
Medicare benefits you've earned will not change." Senate Minority
Leader Mitch McConnell pointed out that Obamacare cuts Medicare by a
half-trillion dollars to fund new programs.

Some liberal groups are concerned the President's commission on deficit
reduction might propose cuts in Social Security benefits. Conservatives
should speak out against this as well, since Social Security is not in
any way contributing to the federal deficit.

Values:

In a 2-1 decision, a panel of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled
that displays of the Ten Commandments in the court houses of two
counties are unconstitutional. But the 6th Circuit had ruled identical
exhibits of the Ten Commandments were OK in two other counties.

The panel explained the difference was in the motivation for the
exhibits. Religious purposes are illegal, but historical and education
objectives are fine.

Mathew Staver, who represented the counties, pointed out that, if a
display itself is permissible, "motive is irrelevant." Staver said he
will ask the full appeals court to consider the case and was prepared to
take it to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Conservatives and the GOP:

The strong vote Nikki Haley received for governor in the South Carolina
Republican Primary may have given conservatives a new national star.
Haley almost received more votes than her three opponents--a
congressman, the state attorney general, and the lieutenant
governor--combined.

Haley started the race as a little known state representative with no
money but received the strong support of Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, and
Jenny Sanford. Like Palin, Haley defeated an incumbent in her own party
and, after being elected, fought the GOP establishment.

Haley will face Congressman Gresham Barrett in a run-off on June 22.
Barrett voted for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout.
