The Church is very cautious about approving alleged apparations. However, after careful investigation, the Church usually will come up with an answer in a few years.
I believe the apparations at Lourdes and Fatima were approved relatively soon after after they happened. And it is my understanding the Church has indicated that it does NOT believe the alleged apparations in Elyria, Ohio; Bayside, New York; and Nededah, Wisconsin, were authentic.
Some of the criteria for determining the validity of alleged apparantions include doctrinal errors attributed to God or the Blessed Virgin Mary. Any statement that all sins are the same would be such a doctrinal error.
