Yes, Bob Sungenis is a sad story.  We should all pray for him.

Bob Sungenis.....sad.  About 15 years ago I was watching EWTN while on vacation and saw him on one of the programs.  At the time, he seemed solid, sensible, and articulate.  I bought a number of books, but had not yet read them when he apparently changed and went way around the bend.  Some time ago he put forth some stuff that seemed to me very anti-Jewish/anti-Israel.  That is always a "breaker" for me personally.  Once that happened, I saw reputable Catholic apologists like Dave call Sungenis out and also saw EWTN/Mother Angelica drop him from their programs.  I tossed his books out.  While they might have had merit, I wont' have anything in my house tied to such a poisonous individual.  That's just me.

I'd hoped maybe he'd wake up and turn around, but it looks like he hasn't.  I hope the Lord will wake him up in some way.  Going way out in any direction ends up withering the soul and heart.

My .02,

Bret

Stuart,

Your understanding is right on target.  See Dominus Iesus at

This document was written by Cardinal Ratzinger and, of course, approved by Pope John Paul II.

Sungenis: . . . the universal salvation that John Paul II so often promoted in his addresses and encyclicals.

I was under the impression that Catholic "universalism" such as from JPII was not absolute.  They still maintain a "logical possibility" (otherwise Jesus' warnings are meaningless) that some may be damned, but *hope* for universal redemption.  Is my impression correct?
