Had a blast today at Providence Classical Christian Academy. It's "Mark Twain" days, and Chamber orchestra performed Providence Two Step while students were arriving, and had it's own entry for the Presentations.
In previous years, it was the "Two Truths and a Lie" contest, where the students told tales about something they did, two of which were truths, and one was not, and you had to guess which was not.
For Chamber, we "are performing a special piece. It's a period piece that Mark Twain would have heard. It's likely to be remembered". We proceeded to rig picking a teacher name from a hat, and called up Mr. Klousia, the Greek Teacher, known for singing "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees in his car on field trips.
We handed him a "Boom Box", and proceeded to play an arrangement I did for Stayin' Alive for 2 violins, cello, piano and Flute. Jacqui rolled her eyes a lot in rehearsal, but gamely did a great job with the High Parts.
Lots of folks enjoyed the School inside joke, I believe.
After that, students performed excerpts from Mark Twain Literature. Lauren did a FABULOUS job on the Sunday School scene, with rapid character transformations, and cleanly memorized... in a week. I suppose I'm allowed, as a proud poppa to say she was wonderful.
Lots of students did well in their presentations as well, many of which are now in the choir I'm teaching as well. Kudos, guys!
Tomorrow, it's the great Raft Race...
