[Mesh] Batman basics

I have two Linux PCs in my home network running batman-adv. It's not
intended to be practical as much as self-educational.

How does one get them to see each other through the home (wired) network,
using batman?

Also, am I correct in assuming that in layer 2, batman is agnostic about
the medium of communication (wired vs. wireless)?
