The Retroshare project might be closer to ready for prime time.  It is
not javascript based for one thing ...  :-)

I tried a build on Fedora, and ran into improper forward references to
structs that modern gcc-c++ rejects.  This is fixed in master, so I am
waiting for 0.6.6 release to try again.  If I get really impatient, I
can get a big patch from git to apply to 0.6.5 ... although that kind
of goes against the spirit of Fedora packing rules.
