A Song for the Fake News
- 5:1 "meditation" - הָגִיג "silent groanings" or "quiet musings". Romans 8:26
- 5:2 "my King and my God" - David is King in Jerusalem, but he serves a higher King.
"to You will I pray" - not to saints or idols. (Technically, Catholics ask
saints to pray for them, and are not supposed to pray *to* them.)
- 5:3 "in the morning" - start the day with prayer.
"will I direct my prayer" - עָרַךְ is to "arrange", "set in order", as in troops
for battle or bread on the table of show bread. By having the request all
set to go and in order, you save a lot of time.
"and will look up" - to await in expection. Don't be one of those who are
caught off guard when their prayer is answered.
- 5:4 "God has no pleasure in wickedness" - He is not amused.
"neither shall evil dwell" - He is utterly holy.
- 5:5 "the foolish shall not stand in Your sight" - or "foolish boasting".
God has no tolerance for foolishness.
"hates all that work iniquity" - God does not "affirm" sin.
- 5:6 "abhor the bloody and deceitful" - e.g. politicians calling for
violence with deceptive framing or outright lies.
- 5:7 "in the multitude of Your mercy" - we approach God to worship
not because we are "more righteous than so and so", but because
He is merciful. "In Your fear I will worship" - do not take this
mercy for granted.
- 5:8 "lead me in Your righteousness" - it is God who instructs us in
righteousness. Psalm 32:8
As Paul says, He sanctifies us in His truth. John 17:17
- 5:9 "no faithfulness in their mouth" - not a word they speak can be trusted.
"inward parts are very wickedness" - "on the inside you are full of hypocrisy
and wickedness." Matthew 23:27-28
"throat is an open sepulchre" - Romans 3:13
- 5:10 "Destroy Thou them!", "Cast them out!" - fulfilled when the Pharisees
rejected their Messiah. Matthew 21:33-46
- 5:11 "let them ever shout for joy!" - Psalm 66
- 5:12 "surround him with favor as a shield" - Job 1:10
