David Rejects Bad Advice
Good Advice
by Alan Sherman - Good advice, or bad advice?
- Jesus and Satan Matthew 4
- Jesus and Peter Matthew 16:23
- Zedekiah and Friends Jeremiah 38:20-23
- Gedaliah and Johanan Jeremiah 40:13-16
- The Man of God and the Old Prophet 1 Kings 13:11-25
- 11:1 "flee as a bird" - Run! Run for your life! The advice of David's
friends was well intentioned, unlike Satan. But as Peter's well
intentioned advice was not from God, so with the advice of David's
friends, or the friends of Zedekiah. Godly advice is a good thing,
see Proverbs. But take it seriously, and do not give it flippantly -
it can save the unwary, or ruin them.
- 11:2 "bend the bow" - visible danger, be afraid!
"shoot from secret" - conspiracy, be very afraid!
- 11:3 "what can the righteous do?" - the ultimate excuse
- 11:4 "The LORD is in his holy temple" - there was no earthly temple
yet, but it was understood that the tabernacle was a model of the
heavenly temple. "His eyes behold" - God sees everything.
"His eyelids try" - He looks askance, with disapproval.
- 11:5 "he that loves violence, His soul hates" - "the LORD abhors the
man of bloodshed and deceit", Psalm 5:6 "the coveteous whom
the LORD abhors", Psalm 10:3
- 11:6 "this shall be the portion of their cup" - Jesus consumes this
cup for us: "O My Father, if it be
possible, let this cup pass from Me: nevertheless not as I will, but
as You will." Matthew 26:39
"The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured
out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be
tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels,
and in the presence of the Lamb:" Revelation 14:10
- 11:7 "The upright will see His face" - "As for me, I will behold Your face
in righteousness; when I awake, I will be satisfied in Your presence."
Psalm 17:15
