As He planted and tended the trees of Eden, so he plants and
tends the nations.
- 31:4 "sending their channels" - both metaphorical and literal, the great
aqueducts of Assyria were used for millenia, with the last being
decommissioned in 1996 in Iraq, after over 3000 years of operation.
- 31:5 "towered higher than all the other trees" - cue Jordan Peterson
talking about hierarchy.
- 31:6 nations lived in its shade. For example, Assyrian king Adad-Nirari
delivered Israel from Syria in
2 Kings 13
as prophesied by Jonah in
2 Kings 14:25.
- 31:7 "beautiful in its greatness" Assyria gave us most of the
basic technology still in use today. See

Assyria was the policeman of the world until they became proud
and cruel.
- 31:11 "ruler of nations" - Nabolassar led an international coalition
to take down Assyria, died in battle, and was succeeded by his son,
Nebuchadnezzar.
- 31:12 "most ruthless" - the Chaldeans did not mess around, but they
ruled justly until Nabonitas/Belshazzer.
- 31:17 "allies had lived it its shade" - the allies of Assyria had
all fallen to the Chaldean coalition.
- 31:18 "you also will be brought down" - the Egyptian empire had also
become proud and carelss, will also be thrown on the dustbin of
history.
