[Apologetics] Kerry to be excommunicated?

Stuart,
Despite this sensational nature of this article, I
doubt very much if Senator Kerry or any other
practicing Catholic will actually be excommunicated
over their position on public policy issues.
There are a whole lot of legislative issues in which
the Church takes a strong stand.
It is theoretically possible that a good Catholic (I'm
speaking in general here and certainly not relating
this to any particular person) could agree in general
but disagree in particulars.
Without knowing the details, it would not be possible
to make a judgement about what is actually in
someone's heart and mind.
If, after talking extensively with a public official
who adamantly disagreed with the Church on a crucial
issue and had no reasonable alternative way to achieve
the same result, such as to stop abortions or to
provide food for the poor, then it is possible that
somewon might be excommunicated.
I think it would be rare. And it is not going to
happen in the midst of a presidential campaign.
