Churches unhappy over ruling on gay marriages

MOST church leaders in the Eastern Cape and elsewhere
have rejected a Constitutional Court ruling yesterday
giving legal effect to gay marriages.

Gay rights groups, however, have welcomed the ruling
while most political parties have hedged their bets –
agreeing to abide by the change in the law but not
expressing strong support or opposition to the move.

Government spokesman Joel Netshitenzhe said last night
it had noted the ruling and would respect it.
