Schiavo parents thank Vatican prelate for efforts 

May. 17 (CWNews.com) - The parents of Terri Schiavo
met on May 17 with Cardinal Renato Martino (bio -
news), the president of the Pontifical Council for
Justice and Peace, at his Vatican office. 

Bob and Mary Schindler thanked the cardinal for his
efforts on their daughter's behalf. Cardinal Martino--
who had been outspoken in his opposition to removing
the feeding tube from the brain-damaged Florida
woman-- renewed his condemnation of the decision to
cause her death by starvation. Her death, he said, had
been an "assassination" carried out by "one of the
most inhuman and cruel forms."
