Papal visit captured Turkish hearts, prelate reports  

Dec. 5, 2006 (AsiaNews) - Pope Benedict XVI captured
the hearts of the Turkish people during his visit last
week, the president of the country’s episcopal
conference has told the AsiaNews service. 

Archbishop Ruggero Franceschini of Smyrna said that
the papal visit transformed a climate that had been
characterized by suspicion and hostility. “I looked in
the eyes of people many times, and every time I found
expressions of sympathy for the Pope,” he said.
