Hi
Can any of you guys help me with the biblical reasoning of the teaching that Jesus' human nature was not the fallen nature of current mankind?
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
(Romans 8:3 KJV)
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
(John 1:14 KJV)
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
(Hebrews 4:15 KJV)
How would one provide a good argument that the flesh was real, but the sinful human nature wasn't there, that the human nature was sinless, only the "likeness of sinful flesh" not actual "sinful flesh" ? (I quote Heb 4:15 to get it out of the way - the counter argument is that he was without sin, not without a sinful nature."
The arguments come from Adventism, which is confused on this issue, with different groups taking different positions, based on differing/contradicting quotes from their prophetess Ellen White:
It was in the order of God that Christ should take upon Himself the form and nature of fallen man. (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 4a, p. 115)
We should have no misgivings in regard to the perfect sinlessness of the human nature of Christ. (Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 256)
Not possessing the passions of our human, fallen nature, but compassed with like infirmities, tempted in all points even as we are. (Testimonies, vol. 2, p. 509)
Thanks!
Stephen
