  Dear Miss Dawson,    Pope Benedict says he hopes a wider use of the Tridentine Mass will bring solace to many Catholics and influence the Novus Ordo for the better. Our sister site, Catholic World News, has provided an outstanding analysis of what Pope Benedict has just decreed and what he hopes to achieve by it.

According to the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, promulgated on Saturday and scheduled to take effect on September 14th, every priest has the right to say Mass using the Roman Missal of 1962, and pastors are to provide that liturgy to any "stable group" of parishioners who request it.

The Pope also explained his reasons in a Letter to the Bishops on the Occasion of the Publication of Summorum Pontificum.

The Law of Diminishing Returns

I was delighted when we received nearly $3,500 in the first 24 hours after explaining our need for funds last week. Then the next day, we received $750, and the day after $240. So far today, we've received $75. You can see why I get frustrated.
