Pope welcomes Mennonites on first visit to Vatican  

Vatican, Oct. 19, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict
XVI met on October 19 with leaders of the Mennonite
World Conference, who had asked for a meeting with the
Pope and other Vatican officials. 

Mennonite leaders, heirs of the Anabaptist tradition,
had accepted the invitation from Pope John Paul II
(bio - news) to participate in the inter-faith day of
prayer at Assisi in 1986. Otherwise the group had had
no previous contact with the Holy See.
