Dem Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler has
embarrassed our state from coast-to-coast. She has disgraced the party and
should resign. Even some Democrats are appalled. Fowler's reported
"apology" is anything but an apology. Read more.
Democrat Fowler Apologizes for Sarah
Palin Abortion Only Qualification Remark
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The woman who is the
head of the Democratic Party in South Carolina has apologized for saying the
only qualification vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has is she didn't
have an abortion. The comment from Carol Fowler, whose husband previously ran
the national party, caused controversy yesterday. As LifeNews.com reported Wednesday, Fowler
said McCain had chosen a running mate "whose primary qualification seems to be
that she hasn't had an abortion." Earlier this year, Palin and her husband
decided to keep their disabled
baby Trig, who has Down syndrome, even though 90 percent of babies with the
condition become victims of abortion. Late Wednesday, after condemnations of the
attack came in from across the country, Fowler apologized. "I personally admire
and respect the difficult choices that women make everyday, and I apologize to
anyone who finds my comment offensive," Fowler said in a statement, according to
AP. "I
clumsily was making a point about people in South Carolina who may vote based on
a single issue. Whether it's the environment, the economy, the war or a woman's
right to choose, there are people who will cast their vote based on a single
issue," she continued. "That was the only point I was attempting to make." Full story at

Fowler apologizes for abortion remark
South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler, facing criticism for her
remark to Politico's Alex Burns about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, issues an
apology:
"I personally admire and respect the difficult choices that
women make everyday, and I apologize to anyone who finds my comment offensive. I
clumsily was making a point about people in South Carolina who may vote based on
a single issue. Whether it’s the environment, the economy, the war or a woman’s
right to choose, there are people who will cast their vote based on a single
issue. That was the only point I was attempting to make."
Update: Also tonight, Rep. John Spratt (D-S.C.) put out a
statement to say: "I cannot believe that Carol Fowler made such a statement, and
I want to make it clear that she speaks for herself, and not for me or the
Democratic Party."
More Spratt: "Her statement about Governor Palin is outrageous and wrong,
because Sarah Palin's qualifications are quite evident."
