      DEMOCRAT CONGRESS VOTES TO APPROVE COMPARING SEN. OBAMA TO JESUS &
GOV. PALIN TO PONTIUS PILATE

      Jesus was a “Community Organizer?”

      WASHINGTON DC—The Traditional Values Coalition said statements by
liberal Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) comparing Presidential candidate Sen. Barack
Obama (D-IL) to Jesus is “cheap partisan rhetoric and blasphemy.”

      In a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives on September
10th, Rep. Cohen said: “I submit to you, Mr. Speaker, that the parties have
differences, but if you want change, you want the Democrat Party.  BARACK
OBAMA was a community organizer like Jesus, whom our minister prayed about.
Pontius Pilate was a Governor.”

      Today, when the nation is focused on remembering the victims of 9/11,
the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve Rep Cohen’s remarks.
Those voting yes have signaled it is appropriate to compare Barack Obama to
Jesus and Sarah Palin as Pontius Pilate.

      The vote was 214 to 189 (30 did not vote, one voted present, and 7
Democrats voted no.)

      TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty called Cohen’s speech “cheap
partisan rhetoric, blasphemy and a sure sign that liberals are desperate to
stop Gov. Sarah Palin.“

      “Comparing Obama to Jesus and Sarah Palin as Pontius Pilate is
outrageous and shows how scared liberals are of her abilities. The approval
of this outrageous statement for the official record by the Democrats means
the leadership of the Party endorses Cohen’s ridiculous comparison.

      “Of the many names of Jesus Christ in the Bible—‘community organizer’
isn’t even mentioned.  He created every community and everything else, for
that matter, so He has no need to organize anything.

      “The acts of desperation are evident every day now as liberals panic
in their efforts to attack Gov. Palin.  First their Presidential candidate
calls her a ‘pig’ and now they are saying she is Pontius Pilate and their
candidate is Jesus.

      “If he really thinks he is Jesus, Sen. Obama may be disappointed the
next time he tries to go into a public school or court house—Jesus is not
allowed there.

      “Even for these radical liberals, this offensive rhetoric takes the
campaign to a new unexplored depth.”
