Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) betrayed pro-lifers and provided the deciding vote that ended the filibuster against Obamacare.  In return, Nelson received additional federal aid for Nebraska.

The Washington Post's Michael Gerson wrote a blistering article about Nelson with the headline, "For Sale: One senator (D-Neb.) No principles, low price."  Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) said Nelson was "playing the price is right."

National Right to Life calls the Senate version of Obamacare unacceptable.  The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said the legislation was morally deficient and "should be opposed."

The Senate version of Obamacare must be approved by the House and the legislation could still be derailed.  Speaker Pelosi might try to avoid a conference committee but will have to contend with liberal enthusiasts for a "public option."

If the bill goes to a conference committee, an even more liberal product will likely emerge.  It is uncertain if a "public option" could survive a new Senate filibuster.

A compilation of all the national opinion polls shows overwhelming opposition to Obamacare.  The Senate ignored public opinion, but the House may yet be more responsive.
