the GOP:

Political observers have credited Tea Party activists and Sarah Palin
for the victories of candidates in the GOP primaries.  Richard Viguerie
says John McCain "owes his victory o the pressure he received from
conservatives and Tea Partiers."

In Alaska, Joe Miller holds a thin lead over Senator Lisa Murkowski,
with many absentee ballots still to be counted.  It may take until
September 8 to count all of the mailed ballots.

8 national polls all show the GOP winning the popular vote for Congress.
The average for all of them are Republicans 46.1%, Democrats 41.6%.

A new independent analysis says Obamacare could force as many as 3.7
million Medicare recipients to have to switch prescription drug plans.
Leslie Norwalk, a former Medicare administrator, says, "If you're in a
plan that you like and you have to change it, it will be disruptive." 

Two reports on a secret conference of liberal leaders reveal that
Democrats are in retreat on Obamacare.  Multiple polls and focus groups
found that opposition to the new law has grown more intense and even
Democratic constituencies "have not been won over."

The citizens of Alaska voted to enact a law requiring parental
notification before girls under 18 can obtain an abortion.  Despite
being outspent 5-1, the proposal passed 55.4% to 44.6%.

An official with Planned Parenthood said the measure will be a severe
restriction on abortion.  The National Right to Life Committee said
Alaska has become the 30th state with a parental involvement statute.

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Chairman of the Pro-Life Committee of the
Catholic Bishops, has written to all members of the House to strongly
endorse HR 5939, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, by
Congressman Chris Smith and 166 cosponsors.  "The federal government
should not use taxpayers' money to support and promote elective
abortion."
