[Apologetics] YOUNG PHYSICIAN'S VIEW ON HEALTHCARE REFORM

The poor receive medical care through Medicaid.
Many of those who do not have medical insurance are young people who voluntarily decline it because they feel invulnerable. As a result, they do not pay premiums until they get older and start needing medical attention. This raises the costs of medical insurance for everyone. (Insurance is, after all, a shared responsibility.)
Others who do not have health insurance are illegal aliens, who use hospital emergency rooms, where federal law requires hospitals to treat anyone.
I am personally not opposed in principle to mandatory basic health insurance. Of course, "the devil is in the details" of exactly how you enforce this.
I am also personally in favor of some kind of reasonable regulation over what hospitals can charge. Last summer, while attending Disney World, a friend's granddaughter had an emergency operation and was in the hospital for three days. The cost came to $24,000. The free enterprise system does not work under emergency circumstances, as there are no opportunities to get three bids.
I'm almost certain the Obamacare Bill does NOTHING about controlling what hospitals can charge patients.
I'm also not completely opposed to requiring some employers to provide health care for its workers. For instance, I know that Children of American daycare centers, which is a billion dollar corporation, does NOT provide health care for its many employees. The problem is that many small businesses, already struggling in the recession, simply could not do this. So, there would have to be some criteria for making this mandatory for some businesses but not others.
Obamacare does much more omnious things.
It rations health care for everyone, especially the elderly, in order to control costs. It provides for federal funding of abortion on demand.
The Catholic bishops are right to call this legislation "morally deficient." Unfortunately, the Catholic Hospital Association supports Obamacare. (See the paragraph above about how the bill leaves hospitals alone.)
The vote will be very close in the House. Please call your Congressman today and tell him or her to vote NO!

Individual health *insurance* (as opposed to HMOs) plus HSA funding
costs about as much as running an economy car. Family insurance
costs about as much as running (buy/maintain/insure/fuel) a luxury car.
Any individual who can afford a car, but not health insurance, simply
has different priorities.
That said, there are people who have no money for car, luxuries, or
health insurance.
