Rebecca,
Thank you so much for writing. I hope I answer well. I've been
staying up so late with musicals, etc, that I haven't had any time to
finish writing. I'm not sure I finished out my thoughts well, but here
it goes...

While I support the reestblishment and enforcement of anti-sodomy
laws, there is a big difference between not enforcing anti-sodomy laws
and promoting the gay lifestyle.

First off, Governmental laws for marriage (between one man and one
woman) has always been simply a recognition of the law of God, based on
the Bible. This is the same for laws of property, laws against murder,
false witness etc. We shouldn't forget that the current attempts to
erradicate laws such as anti-sodomy and to totally redefine marriage is
one more step in totally eliminating God from our laws and lives. I
think we can safely say that the people who are driving this country
toward the redefiinition of marriage are the same ones, or in league
with the same ones who would silence any attempt to steer this country
in a way that is pleasing to God. If you doubt, this statement, take a
look at Canada where "hate-crimes" type statutes have been applied to
people who point out what the Bible says about the practice of sodomy.

Please note, I am starting with this argument, instead of a secular
one, because this is the one that makes the biggest difference. Do we,
in America, really want God to Bless America? Do we wish that God would
not deliver us to the consequences of sinful acts? including
destruction? (God has done this before, and can do it again). If we
don't and we love our country and the people in it, we will want this
nation to be righteous before God, receive the blessings that come from
that, and avoid the wrath of God by slapping Him in the face.

Please note also that I am also concurring with Stuart's accurate
distinction between those who may have messed up desires contrary to
Biblical law, and those who actually act on sodomy.

Will governmental blessing of "gay marriage" help people steer their
courses towards righteousness? The president of Exodus International,
http://www.exodus-international.org states that when he was young, he
wanted to marry a man, but the law protected him from that tragic
mistake. I think the corollary is also true. If we promote this
travesty many younger people who are not truly embedded in the
lifestyle will say, "well, sure, the goverment even condones it". This
won't be what happens right away, but in a few years, if it happens, and
becomes an unnoted outrage, like the millions of babies we continue to
murder each year. Many young women are fooled into thinking that
abortion can't be problematic, since the government protects their
"right to choose", and suddenly, they're living the rest of their lives
with the knowledge they've murdered a child, and perhaps other mental
and medical problems.

The biggest impact will be children. Statistical survey after
statistical survey shows that children grow and mature better with a
father and a mother than any single parent (though obviously, this
circumstance cannot always be avoided). How can we, as a nation,
purposefully put children into guaranteed bad situations?

So therefore, it isn't just about letting two people do what they
want, it is about public statements of what is good and right, and the
affect of that statement upon people forming their own values, and
giving children the best situation possible, instead of the worst.

   Sorry it took so long.

Cousin Jonathan
