Dear Gathnetters,
This is just a quick note to get you up on the happenings here at
Pilgrim Rest. I am sorry that I didn't make clear what was happening to
Anne last week but it happened so fast, I really didn't have time to
write properly.
Anne was sent to a specialist who does a proceedure called abulation on
the heart. This is a proceedure which is suppose to stop the heart
flutter and thus reduce the risk of another stroke. It seems (from my
laymans eyes) that in the first chamber of the heart where the veins
enter the heart that there are oscillations electrical pulses racing
about the heart at about 200 to 300 pulses per minuite. This is way to
fast for the heart to pump so only once in a while these pulses occur
with those of the normal heart and this is a cause of "flutter" on the
EKG and a cause of irregular heart beat. The Doc said that Anne had a
classic case of this and so within in a few days he had her scheduled at
Sharpe Grossmont Hospital for the proceedure. The proceedure consists
of inserting probes up the veins from her lower abdomin and into the
heart. They first acertain there is the abnormal oscillations and then
the send up another probe which burns and causes a scar at a special
place in the chamber. They then withdraw the probes and all is well.
Well at the hospital, when they took the EKG, the flutter was gone and
we thought all was a success. However when we went back on Tuesday of
this week to the doctor's office, the EKG showed that the flutter and
irregularity were back. The doctor was very dissappointed but says this
some times happens. He will try and schedule another proceedure in the
near future.
Love, der Altgrossvater
