Dear all,
Yesterday was the 30th day (shloshim) of Elis
passing and we commemorate this day with prayers at
the gravesite. It was also what you might call the
unveiling of the tombstone. The next commemoration is
a year after the passing.
The words on the tombstone were written by one of the
rabbis and Moshe was also involved somewhat in the
final rendition.. My translation does not do justice
to the beautiful poetry of the words in Hebrew:
Loving the Lord with all his might
Studying and reflecting in His Torahs light
Integrity and Modesty were his way of life
Some people mostly from Netivya - came over to the
house afterwards. It sure feels good when people come
or even when they call
Tomorrow is the eve of Rosh Hashana - the new year -
and it is a three day weekend - two for Rosh Hashana
and one for Shabbat (which means lots of trips to the
synagogue.) The kids are off from school for this
long weekend. We were invited for dinner on the second
night to some friends in the neighborhood. Yom Kippur
comes out on a Saturday next week and three days later
follows the holiday of Succot which lasts for a week.
Only during the first and last days of Succot are we
not allowed to work but the kids are off that whole
week. It will be hard to spend the holidays without
Eli.. I am to start work at the college shortly after
this holiday season - in about a month.
It seems that every year we wish each other a better
year than the last one was
and things are not getting
better not here and not in the world. We read about
how the next thing that we have to look forward to is
some terrorists using nuclear arms and that certainly
seems inevitable. There is much to pray for..
It looks as if I will have to invest in a new computer
now as the old one is not worth fixing any more.
Maybe it can be cleaned up so that I can use it only
for graphics and Moshe will get the new one. We also
have a VERY old computer that Eli was using and from
which I am typing right now. This one is more than 10
years old and was redone recently (very cheaply) after
it had died
It works well for just writing and old
style internet. It is slow but pretty steady. Ortal
also uses it for her ICQ ing. I guess nowadays
everyone needs their own computer.
I have told some people about the difficulty I had in
the hospital where while most of the staff were very
good and compassionate in their care, some were not
so
I had some good contact with the head doctor there
at the time so I decided to write her a letter. I was
very surprised when she called me and invited me to
come and meet with her. I told her that my purpose
was not to point a blaming finger but to try and save
others from some of the difficulties we had gone
through. I suggested that maybe a staff caring for
people in their last hours should undergo more special
training for this very difficult task
I do believe she
will see to it that more is done to improve the
situation. I am very glad doctors like her are
around
So I pray that we do have a better year and that peace
will be closer to all of us
and for good health too.
Thank you for all your prayers and cards and your
love.
Judy
