Hi Stuart, Did you ever visit the area where your father was killed? I
did not realize it was that close to Steimbke. I had not pin pointed it
on a German map. I had a very detailed map of that area, but Mandy dear
borrowed it last year when she went to Berlin and that is the last I will
ever see of it. I guess I'll go to Border's and buy another one.
I was also thinking of Ed Gathman who went into France a few days after
D-Day to work as a postal worker with the army. His German that he had
learned at his grandparents farm was so good that the prisoners thought
he was from Hannover.
Will say an extra prayer when we go down to the cemetery tomorrow or
Monday. Yes, your dad gave the ultimate, and so many young men 18-20 gave
so much of their youth to keep us free. I often think that Dick was 18
and had never been away from home before.
Peg's husband is a Canadian citizen and he has interviewed for a job
owed by a German company. He can't go there for a face to face interview
unless he gets an "early parole" from the Immigration Service. How our
world has changed. Love from Aunt Grace and Uncle Dick
