Yeah, that is the one inexcusable thing that ISPs do to DNS (other less
toxic things include extending TTLs, etc). When the domain is not
found, the correct result is an NXDOMAIN error, *NOT* the IP of some
"fail page". There are all kinds of protocols that depend on testing
for the existence of a domain (and getting NXDOMAIN when it doesn't
exist). This very common ISP braindamage completely breaks those
protocols. The solution, of course, is to never, ever, use ISP nameservers.
