Stephen,
As far as I know, your words are perfectly fine.
My point was that, even if they could be improved upon
in some way (and I don't know that they can), it is
absurd for anyone to go ballistic over them.
The guy who engaged in this name-calling is not well.
As a doctor, you may recognize the symptoms. He should
receive treatment from a mental health professional.
And we should pray for him.
As for the guy who approached you in the chapel, that
sounds like a GREAT apologetics opportunity to explain
what Catholics REALLY believe and WHY.
If you didn't have the time to talk to him then,
perhaps you could make arrangements to sit down with
him over a beer (or if he is a fundamentalist, a
Coke)to talk about the faith.
Even if he was not open to dialogue, you could have
given him some materials to read. Maybe Pillar of
Fire, Pillar of Truth at
http://www.catholic.com/library/pillar.asp
Catholic Answers also has good, short articles on
EVERY Protestant objection against the Church. Their
home page is at
http://www.catholic.com/default.asp
Even now, when you see this guy, hand him a copy of
Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth. Ask him to read it
and then talk to you about it later.
The easiest persons to convert are those who have
INACCURATE understandings of Catholicism. All you have
to do is prove to them that they are flat wrong about
some salient issue. After that, everything usually
goes very well.
Of course, Adventists are not your typical
anti-Catholic, since Adventists are also
anti-Protestant and anti-Eastern Orthodox.
I really appreciate the great work you've done with
the Adventists. You are meeting an important need.
