Values:
U.S. Judge Vaughn Walker rules voters have no right to amend the state
constitution to define marriage as a union between one man and one
woman. Curt Levey of Committee for Justice calls this "a classic
example of a judge substituting his personal policy preferences for both
the rule of law and the democratic will of the people."
Rev. Lou Sheldon of Traditional Values Coalition says, "It is an outrage
that one arrogant and rogue federal judge can take it upon himself to
overturn a centuries old definition of marriage and family. He has
completely undermined the expressed will of the people at the ballot
box."
Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America says Walker's decision
strikes "at the heart of our representative democracy." Brain Raum of
the Alliance Defense Fund says, "In America, we should respect and
uphold the right of a free people to make policy choices through the
democratic process."

U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson ruled in favor of Virginia in a suit
challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare. State Attorney General
Ken Cuccinelli says the federal government has no authority to require
that every person purchase health insurance.
The Obama Administration tried to get the suit thrown out, claiming the
state had no right to sue the federal government. Hudson sided with
Virginia, noting there has never been a federal court rule that has
person must purchase a product.
Cuccinelli says the suit is not about health care but rather "calling on
the federal government to follow the ultimate law of the land--the
Constitution." The next step is a hearing on October 18 when the Obama
Administration will seek a summary judgment in its favor.

Conservatives and the GOP:
A new Gallup Poll shows that conservatives outnumber liberals in 49 of
the 50 states. The most conservative states are Wyoming, Mississippi,
and Utah, while the most liberal are the District of Columbia, Rhode
Island, and Connecticut.
If congressional elections were held today, Rasmussen Reports says the
Republicans would win 46% to 38%, while the Gallup Poll says the GOP
would win 48% to 43%. The average of six different national polls has
Republicans at 46.5% and the Democrats at 40.5%.
President Obama's approval rating is 46% in both Rasmussen and Gallup
polls. Rasmussen found only 27% of voters strongly back Obama, while
42% strongly disapprove of his job performance.
In Florida's Senate race, the collapse of both Democratic candidates has
benefited independent Charlie Crist. Five of six polls show Crist
beating Republican Marco Rubio.
